The importance of first impressions…

This past weekend, I attended a conference for the Deaf which I had missed out on in the past 6 years. I had prayed earnestly for this conference. After experiencing some heart-burdening situations, I feel more and more that I need to be deeper in prayer for all that are involved.

I do not have a doubt that I will go back to this conference again. It is “needed” for some of us. I only pray and wish it would become a priority for many others who choose not to come. It was not the conference costs that created a barrier. It was also not a conflict of schedules for many. It was simply a choice to come or not. What the reasons behind those who chose NOT to come, I am determined to research and find out.

But I do know one thing for sure may be a barrier. Because I always watch for it. Its two simple words: “first impressions.”

And not only just for pastors and leaders…this is a lesson for ANY person….when guests arrive…the first impression you make on them in the first few minutes are important. Are they good ones or not? Are the impressions good enough to make the guests want to come back again next year?

“making the most of every opportunity…” Ephesians 5:16 mentions to encourage us to make our “first impressions” last through a lifetime to help Christ’s love be remembered the way He wants it to be remembered.

is your “first impressions” solid? Do they need to be worked on? What would people say about your conference? Your church? Your home?  Something to think about….

May your “first impressions” be an image of Him…
