What am I doing now?
I serve as the Deaf Ministry Catalyst with the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions in Montgomery, Alabama. I also serve as an Evangelist / Sign Music Artist for the Deaf. I do not limit myself to Deaf people only, I can serve for Hearing people as well. I travel often to guest preach, teach workshops, lead summer camps, conferences, retreats, and also lead music concerts in ASL. if you have a need for a Deaf minister in upcoming events, please do not hesitate to ask me. My email is sdye212@gmail.com. If you have videophone access, email me and I will give you my videophone number.
Me and my Hobbies:
My name is Steve Dye. I was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. Currently, me and my family live in Lincoln, Alabama. I am happily married to my wife, Mandi (26 years this December 2020) and have 3 beautiful kids. TJ , Faith, Kamayla.
I love to play golf with my buddies occasionally. I play basketball, softball, and love to bowl as well. I am also an avid collector of Star Wars collectibles.
Christian life facts:
I accepted Jesus Christ when I was 8 years old going to church with my aunt and cousin to Ninth & O Baptist Church (when it was on Taylor Blvd back then). I was baptized at 12 years old. After marrying in 1994, me and my wife hopped different churches because she is deaf and depended on sign language mostly. I was hard of hearing and depended on lip-reading mostly. After hopping churches, picking up sign language here and there, the Lord led us to Valley View Church where He helped me establish a deaf ministry in February 1999. All of my years of ministry at Valley View were a blessing as a volunteer leader. In 2006, the Lord answered a prayer for me and led me to Southeast Christian Church to serve as a minister to Deaf on their church staff. For five years, I led this ministry. As of now, I am currently serving at Highview Baptist Church – Valley Station campus as the Deaf Pastor. I also continue to travel for evangelism work as well.
I have been a Deaf minister since 1996. I submitted my life to serve Jesus in February of 2003 and have been preaching, teaching, interpreting music, and leading deaf to Jesus since then.
My wife is my biggest supporter and she helps me in my ministry in all areas as much as possible. Without her, I do not know where I would be. She is a leader and supporter for many of the women that we meet on our travels often.
Steve,
Awesome to see another Christian blog for the Deaf! Praise the Lord!
Dear Mr. Steve Dye, Greetings from Malaysia. I read with interested about your work and would like to know if you can help me start a religious group of Deaf people here. Could you send me notes, literature etc on how to start one here. Also some SL lessons that you have to teach volunteers the ASL to enable them to communicate with the Deaf youths. Looking forward to hearing from you. God bless. Tan Yap
Hello Steven,
Thank you for your insight and information on visuals being used to better help the Deaf have a better church experience. I am hearing and I too look for better ways to help the Deaf to enjoy church services better and to enjoy what God has for them.
Right now I am teaching sign language classes to member of the church and volunteers for the Deaf ministry. The next step is to start Bible study group when I can get some visuals to complement the lesson. I am open to any suggestions you may have. I appreciate you sharing your work on this Blog.
Thank you
Valarie
Hi, nice to meet you !
Hi Steve, my name is Valerie and I think I spoke to you before. I am an interpreter here in Michigan and also over a non-profit organization that works with and for the Deaf Community. A couple of things. One, are you available for tutoring with songs? If so, what is your fee? I want to put more songs on youtube, but need to work more on my ASL concepts.
Second, I have a friend in Cleveland, Tenn, that wants to continue to learn ASL, learn about the Deaf Culture, meet Deaf people, etc. She is over the Sign Language ministry at her church. Unfortunately, she is currently unable to drive due to some physical challenges. Is Louisville close to Cleveland, Tenn? Would it be possible to at least drop her a line via email to see if the two of you could work out something via SKYPE or you could visit her? Her email address is bannindesu@bellsouth.net and her name is Terry Graves. Thanks and I hope to hear from you soon.
Hello Steven!
I was very interested to read about some of your experiences with worship in the deaf church. I am a volunteer at a deaf church in Bakersfield California and I am looking for deaf worship resources sich as dvd music with subtitles. If you know of any resources out there for this type of thing, please let me know!
Thank you!
Nice post. Thanks for sharing.
So glad to have found you! I would love to see you come to Nebraska!
Liz….Nebraska sounds like a great opportunity! Email me if you can for more details. Would love the opportunity to work and serve with you. Thanks again!
Bro. Dye… I have just seen some of your videos on youtube and they are amazing. My son and I are very interested in ASL and we are currently studying to become interpreters. I find your videos very helpful. I would love to see you in person sometime if you are ever traveling near where we live in Fayetteville, NC.
Lisa..thanks for the compliments, if you ever want to host an ASL concert, just let a local church know, and i will be glad to travel YOUR way to do one. God bless!
I have just met you through your music signing. Many in my family are deaf and I have lost some hearing myself, so I know basic conversational sign; however, I want to improve to the point where I can interpret more accurately and expressively. Thank you for you kindness in sharing your talent and love of God with so many of us. God bless you. PS Your family is beautiful!
